Not too near the ground, please!

When the threshold of a window is at or below ground level, the proximity of it may bring together the components of the window with soil moisture, thus promoting water infiltration and insects.

To avoid such a situation, it is recommended to maintain a minimum clearance of 6 to 8 inches between the threshold of a window and the ground level. The installation of a skylight (edge) will lower the height of the vis-a-vis the ground of the window maintaining adequate field slope outside of the rim. To do this, you should dig the ground at the window and keep the soil through a corrugated steel wall.

When the foundation backfill is not made of a granular material, such as sand or gravel, the bottom of the well should be drained by a vertical pipe of 150 mm (6 in) in diameter, filled with crushed stone and crossing the fill material to the foundation drainage pipe. If the bottom of the well is located within 6 feet of the footing, we recommend you consult one of our experts on remedial work to be undertaken to protect the foundation from frost.

When a bedroom window overlooks a skylight, there must be a minimum clearance of 760 mm (30 in) in front of the window to allow for evacuation in case of emergency. This distance increases in the case of an awning window which opens outwardly.
